Severe mange infestations can have the following effect:
1. It can allow other harmless microorganisms to infect your dog like fungi, or harmful bacteria. The skin condition will worsen, and it could lead to sepsis and shock. Some dogs with mange infestations in a local area like around the eyes can also get eye infections. Although antibiotics will clear these infections, they will recur if the mange is not treated along with it.
2. Because your dog will be feeling extremely uncomfortable, the dog will also likely act poorly. He will not have a good appetite, and will lead to the degeneration of his physical well being. Weight loss is just another way to weaken an already compromised immune system. In this weakened state, the dog can just catch about anything, despite the fact that he is vaccinated for them. Vaccinations are never 100% effective against the diseases that they are made for. They are only an added security for your dog’s health.
3.A mange infested dog can pass his mange to other dogs and in the case of sarcoptic mange, even to you. The mites will not live long in your body, that is true enough, but that doesn’t mean they won’t keep trying to live there whenever they can. As long as your dog has these types of mange, there will be occasions that you will itch along with him.
Mange infections are treatable and prevention is not that hard, either. An infestation can be very uncomfortable for your dog, and there is no reason to let it continue. If you see symptoms of mange on your dog, take him to the vet as soon as possible. The earlier the infestation is caught, the easier it will be to get rid of it. It will also be less expensive and bothersome for you.
Please see below another testimonial for the Mother’s Comfort Project.
We still need a sponsor for 2009-10, so help us out so that we can continue this great project and bring more awareness to animals in need, especially those at the Brooklyn AC&C.
From Jeri, after the April 2009 sewing session:
“Do you think there really is a rescue gene?” I ask Susan. She has just told me that the woman’s face on the Mother’s Comfort patch is that of her grandmother, the woman who passed down her love of animals.
This is the kind of banter that goes on while we sew. We learn about one another: our names, our hobbies, our diets, our schools, our families. We discuss our different experiences with service dogs, pets, and rescue organizations.
You see, we did not know each other before we united on this stunning April day. We are women as young as 14 and as old as 51. Some of us are blonde, some auburn, some grey-haired. Some of us wear dresses, others wear Abercrombie tees or shorts. Some look like supermodels and actresses, others more like grandmas. One of us is even canine: Susan’s pet and our mascot, Sadie. However, there is one thing we have in common: the desire to make life a bit softer and a tad brighter for the homeless animals of New York City.
We are here in Flirt Home Ec, a chic boutique cum craft class cum sewing shop in Park Slope Brooklyn, helping to make animal toys and beds. Today, we are cutting various donated fabrics, snipping and stuffing batting, adding pinches of catnip, or operating sewing machines (some of us for the very first time).
Next month, other volunteers will repeat our work. And then in June, Susan and some of her supporters will visit the [Animal Care & Control] shelter in another part of Brooklyn, to deliver the beds and toys, each one adorned with an orange awareness ribbon.
This is the second year of the Mother’s Comfort project. It is one of many innovative ways Susan Brandt and her Rational Animal organization publicize homelessness and enhance animal welfare around the City. After taking part in this event and being lavished with Sadie kisses, I have to say my own life was enhanced too.

On October 6, Rational Animal, a non-profit media and events organization and a leading advocate for at-risk animals in New York City, will present the 3rd annual ‘Gimme Shelter: Rock & Rescue NYC’ benefit concert. Debbie Harry is serving as the event’s honorary chair and Beastie Boy AdRock and actress Gina Gershon will be guest hosts. A co-venture with the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the event honors and raises money for ten NYC area rescue groups, who, as ten of the over 140 members of the Mayor’s Alliance, were chosen this year to be beneficiaries of the event fundraiser.
Gimme Shelter also highlights the citywide mission to end euthanasia of animals in city shelters that are of reasonable health and temperament by 2015 – as declared by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2002, the year the Mayor’s Alliance was established. The Mayor’s Alliance public-private partnership is setting — and being recognized as — a national model for community animal rescue efforts.
Emceed by nightclub impresarios Chi Chi Valenti and Johnny Dynell, this year’s concert will feature up and coming rocker Lissy Trullie, Brooklyn indie power trio Earl Greyhound, singer songwriter Jesse Malin, and Bloody Social, the rock band of Calvin Klein model, Jamie Burke. Debbie Harry will also perform along with a few surprise guests, and Moby will be house DJ throughout the show.
Susan Brandt, Rational Animal’s Founder, says, “Our goal at Rational Animal is to end euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals. ‘Gimme Shelter’ is a rockin’ way to spread our message, and we’re thrilled that this community of fellow artists and animal lovers have donated their time and talents to the cause.”
The 2006 Gimme Shelter exceeded expectations, both in fundraising and attendance, and was named one of the Top Live Shows of the year by Time Out New York.
Past performers have included rock legends the Beastie Boys, Debbie Harry, Marshall Crenshaw, Nellie McKay, and members of Blue Oyster Cult, the Buzzcocks, and the Dictators.
The Gimme Shelter concert is supported by the Highline Ballroom, VIP sponsor Save The Chimps, media partners NY1 News, GBH TV, Bark Magazine, and New York Tails, beverage sponsors Zipang and Lagunitas Brewing Company, food sponsor Red Jacket Orchards. Silent auction can be accessed online: www.charityfolks.com/rational-animal, and donors include Debbie Harry, the Beastie Boys, and the Black Crowes.
You need to focus on the following areas when you need a new bed for a fully grown dog:
Dog Bed Shape: As I said above that there is different styles that dogs likes to sleep. So if your dog likes stretch out then the best option to choose the right beds for your dog is “Dog Mattress” or a rectangular shaped dog bed. If they like to curl up then the best solutions is “oval or round dog bed”.
Dog Bed Material: Other vital point during dog bed selection ‘material’.Most of them are filled with foam. Nowadays ‘bean bags’ are most popular one. There is lots of new dog beds like ‘memory foam dog beds ‘ which is good one for dog for arthritis, bone or muscular problems.
